TJNA to Advance Equitable Climate Finance and Loss and Damage Solutions at Regional Conference in Malawi

Tax Justice Network Africa (TJNA) will join policymakers, civil society organisations, researchers, and climate advocates from across the continent at the 5th Africa Regional Conference on Loss and Damage, taking place from 25 – 27 March 2026 in Lilongwe, Malawi. 

Held under the theme “Advancing Sustainable, Equitable and Just Financing and Technical Support for Loss and Damage in Africa,” the conference will focus on strengthening Africa’s response to the escalating impacts of climate change, particularly the growing challenges of loss and damage (L&D) affecting vulnerable communities across the continent.  

The conference will provide a platform for dialogue on financing, assessment methodologies, and technical assistance needed to address climate-related losses while advancing Africa’s priorities within the global climate negotiations. 

TJNA will be participating as follows; 

Technical Session 2: Global reforms and national level applications of global instruments in pursuit of reparation and climate justice

The conference will also provide an opportunity for African stakeholders to examine the evolving global architecture on loss and damage, including the operationalisation of the Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage (FRLD) and the Santiago Network on Loss and Damage (SNLD).  

Discussions will focus on strengthening access to equitable and non-debt-creating climate finance, improving methodologies for assessing economic and non-economic losses, and advancing coordinated regional engagement ahead of upcoming United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) processes. 

TJNA’s participation reflects its continued commitment to advancing fair fiscal systems, accountable governance, and equitable global economic rules that enable African countries to mobilise the resources needed to respond to climate impacts and pursue sustainable development.
