Tax Justice Network Africa (TJNA) is set to participate in the second workshop of the Sharm el-Sheikh Dialogue, scheduled for October 6 and 7, 2024, in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. This workshop will focus on the scope of Article 2, paragraph 1(c) of the Paris Agreement and its complementarity with Article 9.

Organised by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and co-hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of Egypt and UNDP Egypt, the workshop will explore how the international financial system and various stakeholders both inside and outside the Paris Agreement influence climate action. Discussions will focus on improving transparency and credibility, with particular attention to preventing greenwashing and maladaptation.

The dialogues will be conducted in a hybrid format, allowing participation both in person and virtually. This includes representatives from parties and observer states, UN organisations, admitted intergovernmental organisations, and other non-party stakeholders.

TJNA’s contribution to the workshop will be as follows;

Date: 06 October 2024

Plenary session: Working towards a financial system that enables the achievement of the goals of the Paris Agreement: priorities for evolution and international cooperation.

Panelist: Chenai Mukumba, Executive Director

During this session, Chenai Mukumba will join other representatives from governments, international organisations, and civil societies to discuss how the international financial system can be adapted to support the Paris Agreement’s goals. The discussion will explicitly focus on the climate-relevant aspects of the international financial architecture.
