Conference on Tobacco Taxation and Health Financing for Sustainable Development

Tax Justice Network Africa (TJNA)  in collaboration with the Centre for Trade Policy and Development (CTPD) and African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF), will host a Conference on Tobacco Taxation and Health Financing for Sustainable Development on Thursday, 14 August 2025, in Lusaka, Zambia. 

The conference will be held under the theme “Strengthening Fiscal Policies to Advance Health Equity in Zambia Through Tobacco Taxation.” It aims to deepen national dialogue, share evidence, and foster inter-sectoral collaboration around the integration of tobacco taxation into Zambia’s health financing framework.  

The Conference will bring together policymakers, researchers, public health advocates, and tax justice champions to explore how smarter fiscal policies, particularly tobacco taxes, can save lives and drive equity across Southern Africa.

Objective: To explore mechanisms to allocate tobacco tax revenues to health 

The event will also mark the official launch of the Tobacco Excise Tax Simulation Model (TETSiM) and presentation of the Tobacco Control Data Initiative (TCDI) Dashboard.
