Tax Justice Network Africa (TJNA) will participate in the 2026 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group, taking place from 12–18 October 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand. TJNA will bring an African tax justice perspective to global discussions on debt sustainability, domestic resource mobilisation, inequality, gender justice and reform of the international financial architecture.
The Annual Meetings come at a critical time when African countries are grappling with mounting debt-servicing obligations, shrinking fiscal space and growing financing needs for essential public services. These challenges stress the urgency of reforms that strengthen Africa’s fiscal sovereignty and enable governments to mobilise and invest more resources in sustainable development.
The meetings will bring together finance and development ministers, central bank governors, international financial institutions, civil society organisations and other stakeholders to discuss global economic challenges, development financing and policy responses to emerging economic pressures.
TJNA will engage in policy discussions and civil society-led sessions to advance Africa’s priorities on fair taxation, debt justice, gender-responsive economic policies and equitable development financing.

Beyond these engagements, TJNA will use the Annual Meetings to strengthen partnerships and advance policy dialogue on domestic resource mobilisation, health financing, illicit financial flows and the ongoing negotiations towards a United Nations Framework Convention on International Tax Cooperation.
As global leaders deliberate on the future of development financing, TJNA will continue to advocate for an international financial system that enables African countries to mobilise, retain and sustainably invest their resources in the interests of their people.
Africa's development financing challenge is not simply about accessing more resources, but about transforming the systems that determine how those resources are generated, distributed and governed. Ensuring fairer taxation, sustainable debt arrangements and greater African leadership in global financial decision-making will be central to achieving a just, prosperous and self-reliant continent.
