Tax Justice Network Africa (TJNA), in collaboration with the Global Tax Policy Center (GTPC) and the African Tax Institute (ATI), will commence the advanced level of the International Tax Justice Academy (ITJA) 2025 edition, starting with the virtual sessions from 15 to 29 April, followed by in-person training from 5 to 7 May 2025 in Pretoria, South Africa.
Launched in 2016, ITJA remains a flagship pan-African capacity building initiative rooted in TJNA’s commitment to mobilising, empowering and inspiring citizens to actively engage in Africa’s tax justice movement.
This edition marks the apex of a three-tier training cycle initiated in 2023 under the theme “Building the Next Generation of Tax Justice Champions.” This year’s academy will convene a cohort of 25 progressive learners drawn from civil society organisations, academia, and media, who have completed earlier levels of the training cycle.
The 2025 edition represents the advanced level of the ITJA curriculum, building upon the foundational and intermediate modules undertaken in 2023 and 2024, respectively. This edition will focus on deepening participants’ understanding and applying practical tax justice strategies.
ITJA aims to generate knowledge on critical areas around tax and create a platform to deepen participants' understanding of tax governance and its relation to economic development, poverty reduction, and social justice.
The program will be structured in three phases:
- Phase 1: Virtual introductory sessions from 15 -29 April, preparing participants for the in-person workshop.
- Phase 2: An in-person workshop from 5 to 7 May, featuring interactive learning and networking.
- Phase 3: Post-event self-paced learning through our LMS platform, concluding with an assessment and certification.
