Beneficial ownership transparency in Africa and Latin America
TJNA in collaboration with the Tax Justice Network, Tax Justice Network Africa and Fundación SES are hosting a webinar titled "Who Owns What, Where, and How?" on March 13, 2023, at 9.00 GMT-4 / 13.00 GMT / 15.00 CAT / 16.00 EAT.
The webinar aims to explore the current state of beneficial ownership across Africa and Latin America as we launch regional reports for Africa and Latin America. The webinar also seeks to further unpack beneficial ownership and its implications on tax justice. Beneficial ownership refers to the individuals who ultimately own or control a company, trust, or other legal entity. In many cases, beneficial ownership is obscured through complex webs of shell companies, nominee directors, and other opaque arrangements.
The webinar will feature a panel of experts who will discuss the following topics:
- The current state of beneficial ownership transparency in Africa & Latin America
- The impact of beneficial ownership on tax justice
- The challenges and opportunities of increasing transparency in this area
Join this discussion, which will also mark the launch of two regional reports on beneficial ownership transparency in Africa and Latin America. The Africa regional report highlights that numerous countries do not have beneficial ownership laws and those that have the laws are struggling with implementation.
