The African Parliamentary Network on Illicit Financial Flows and Taxation (APNIFFT), Tax Justice Network Africa (TJNA), Initiative Locale pour le Développement Intégré (ILDI – ONGD/Asbl), and Conférence Episcopale Nationale du Congo (CENCO) have jointly organised a Members of Parliament (MPs) capacity-building session in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) from the 10th to 11th August 2023.
The training aims to strengthen the capacities of the parliamentarians to effectively address and bring about legislative interventions to curb illicit financial flows (IFFs) and promote Domestic Resource Mobilisation (DRM) in DRC.
The training will provide a platform for knowledge exchange and networking among parliamentarians, experts, and stakeholders in the field of tax.
The discussions will centre on key concerns in the DRC, such as illicit financial flows, the function of legislators in bolstering legal systems, and the significance of parliamentary oversight and accountability procedures. Moreover, emphasis will be placed on international cooperation, working with civil society organisations (CSOs), and best practices for DRC to emulate from African and global contexts.
At the end of the training, the MPs will develop collective action plans to address the issue of IFFs and develop legislative frameworks that will enable them to influence effective policy interventions in the DRC and establish partnerships to combat IFFs at regional and continental levels.
APNIFFT is a flagship program under the coordination of the Tax Justice Network Africa (TJNA), with the overarching objective of providing a comprehensive platform for African legislators.
