Tax Justice Network Africa (TJNA), in collaboration with the Africa Center for Energy Policy (ACEP) and the African Forum and Network on Debt and Development (AFRODAD), is hosting a side event titled "Leveraging Africa's transition minerals for Optimal Domestic Revenue Mobilization" at the EITI 2023 global conference."
The session aims to bring together government officials, policymakers, mining industry experts, civil society organizations, and key stakeholders to identify transformative actions and solutions for addressing the problem of illicit financial flows (IFFs) and optimizing tax revenue collection from transition minerals by African governments.
The session's objectives, through a multisectoral approach, include:
- Identifying transformative actions and solutions for African governments to optimize tax revenue collection from transition minerals.
- Identifying challenges and opportunities for multinational tax transparency.
- Sharing innovative tools, solutions, and practices to enhance citizen demand for transparency and accountability in the mining sector.
- Advocating for a multi-sectoral approach to combat IFFs in Africa's mining sector.
- Identifying collaborative strategies on how the Africa Mining Vision and EITI can enhance tax transparency for improved domestic revenue mobilization in Africa's mining sector.
During the session, several speakers, including Mukupa Nsenduluka, TJNA's policy officer for Tax & Natural Resource Governance, will explore the main themes of optimal tax revenue collection amid the energy transition, tax transparency, citizen engagement (Civic Space), and the nexus between the Africa Mining Vision and EITI.
