Tax Justice Network Africa’s Executive Council has appointed Ms Chenai Mukumba as the Executive Director effective 1st August 2023. The appointment follows a rigorous, inclusive and transparent executive search exercise that was conducted by RavelWorks Africa.

Chenai succeeds TJNA’s founding Executive Director Alvin Mosioma, who left the institution in January 2023 after 15 years at the helm. She has been serving as the Policy, Research and Advocacy Manager at TJNA, having joined in 2021.

Chenai has worked in the non-profit sector for over 15 years in Asia and Africa and has expertise in international trade and Africa’s economic governance, with experience in research coordination, policy advocacy and leadership development.

Chenai has a Master's in International Relations from Wits University, Johannesburg and is currently studying for a Master's in Taxation at the University of Oxford.

“The Executive Council recruitment sub-committee placed significant emphasis on skills, experiences and expertise required to successfully lead TJNA in its next phase of growth. We are confident that under her leadership, the organisation’s success and impact in achieving its mission and vision will continue to flourish,” notes Jane Nalunga, TJNA’s Executive Council Chairperson.

Chenai has been acting as TJNA’s Interim Executive Director since 3rd January 2023, when the recruitment process began.

“Over the past 15 years, TJNA has grown to become one of the most recognised pan-African NGOs within the economic justice movement. I am honoured to have the opportunity to be a part of the transition of this institution. I look forward to building on the legacy of my predecessor to establish TJNA as a thought leader on a topic so fundamental to our livelihood,” says Chenai.
