The African Parliamentary Network on Illicit Financial Flows and Taxation (APNIFFT), Tax Justice Network Africa (TJNA) and the Alternative Information and Development Centre (AIDC) have jointly organised a Members of Parliament (MPs) capacity-building session in Cape Town South Africa, to strengthen the capacities of the parliamentarians to effectively address and bring about legislative interventions to curb illicit financial flows (IFFs) and promote Domestic Resource Mobilisation (DRM).
The capacity-building session will take place from the 15th to the 16th of August 2023 and provides a platform for networking and knowledge exchange among parliamentarians, experts, and stakeholders in the field of tax.
The discussions will center on critical concerns in South Africa such as illicit financial flows, the role of the legislature in influencing policy change through legislation and the significance of parliamentary oversight and accountability procedures. Moreover, emphasis will be placed on international cooperation, working with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), and best practices for South Africa to emulate from other African countries and global contexts.
At the end of the training, the MPs will be equipped with knowledge that will help them develop collective action plans to address the issue of IFFs and formulate legislative frameworks that will enable them to influence effective policy interventions in South Africa.
APNIFFT is a flagship programme under the coordination of TJNA, with the overarching objective of providing a comprehensive platform for African legislators.
