The 2024 edition of the International Tax Justice Academy (ITJA) is set to commence from 6th August 2024. The academy, to be held in a hybrid has attracted over 35 participants from across Africa and will be held under the theme ‘Building the Next generation of Tax Justice Champions’. This year’s event will feature both virtual and in-person sessions, which will be held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania: preliminary virtual sessions from August 6th to 15th, and a hands-on forum from August 20th to 22nd.
The ITJA, inaugurated in 2016 as a pan-African initiative, has been pivotal in strengthening capacities within the tax justice space in order to enhance knowledge and skills of tax justice advocates. ITJA 2024 will build on the foundation laid in 2023 by offering an intermediate-level training program that will deepen participants’ understanding of tax justice and its significance in sustainable development across Africa.
ITJA aims to generate knowledge on critical areas around tax and create a platform to deepen participants' understanding of tax governance and its relation to economic development, poverty reduction, and social justice.
The program will be structured in three phases:
-
Phase 1: Virtual introductory sessions from August 6th to 15th, preparing participants for the in-person workshop.
-
Phase 2: An in-person workshop from August 20th to 22nd, featuring interactive learning and networking.
-
Phase 3: Post-event self-paced learning through our LMS platform, concluding with an assessment and certification.
