The African Parliamentary Network on Illicit Financial Flows and Taxation (APNIFFT), Tax Justice Network Africa (TJNA), SEATINI UGANDA, and Uganda Parliamentary Network on Illicit Financial Flows and Tax Justice (UPNIFFT) are set to launch APPNIFT Uganda national caucus on July 21st , 2023. The launch will provide a platform for members of parliament to discuss key issues on Illicit Financial Flows (IFFs) in Africa and Tax justice, under the theme “MP’s Leadership in Combatting Illicit Financial Flows and Tax Injustices”

The launch also provides a platform for legislators and parliamentary staff to come together, engage, and collaboratively strategise on combating illicit financial flows and promoting domestic resource mobilisation for tax justice in Uganda.

During the meeting, the MPs will be taken through practical steps on how they can reform the tax infrastructure in Uganda that is largely charactised by unfair policies and practices that promote the interests of the corporations and the rich; IFFs through corruption; and limited capacity of the government institutions to equitability broaden the narrow tax base for example beneficiation of the extractive sector

APNIFFT is a flagship program under the coordination of the Tax Justice Network Africa (TJNA), with the overarching objective of providing a comprehensive platform for African legislators. This platform aims to foster strategic discussions, knowledge exchange, and capacity-building initiatives geared explicitly toward tackling illicit financial flows and tax injustice in Africa.

APNIFFT empowers its members to lead impactful change within their jurisdictions by facilitating streamlined advocacy-related dialogues and discussions on critical subjects like Illicit Financial Flows (IFFs), tax governance, and Domestic Resource Mobilization (DRM).

This launch follows the successful launch of the APNIFFT Madagascar national caucus and is part of the plans by APNIFFT to reinvigorate the national caucuses within the continent.

Through collaborative discussions and sharing experiences, the caucus launch brings together parliamentary officials, researchers and civil society organizations (CSOs). Participants will gain valuable insights into combating illicit financial flows and devise strategic approaches to mitigate their adverse effects.
